Scioto High School boys basketball team scored 15 points and led three players
in double figures as the second-seeded Irish routed West 88-40 on Saturday in
the second round of the Division I district tournament.
Scioto shot better than 61 percent (35 of 57) from the field and nearly 65 percent
(11 of 17) from 3-point range as it improved to 21-1.
"We just talked about coming out and everybody playing well, instead of
playing to the score or playing to the opponent," Scioto coach Tony
Bisutti said. "I think we achieved that objective. But it's the real deal
now with the district semifinal coming up."
The Irish will face 10th-seeded Reynoldsburg at 4:15 p.m. March 7 at the
Fairground Coliseum in a district semifinal.
Scioto took care of another City League opponent in the first round of the
tournament with a 71-43 victory over Briggs on Feb. 25.
Eleven Irish players scored against the Cowboys, who trailed 50-17 at halftime
and were outrebounded 33-15. Rainer Duzan finished with 14 points and Eric
Stamets had 10.
"We were really good at working the ball around and finding the open
guys," Scioto senior guard David McKinley said. "We really just
wanted to come out and play our best each possession."
Antwian McDanial scored 18 points to lead West, which finished 5-16 overall.
Ricky Moore had 11.
