SCIOTO IMPRESSIVE IN OPENER
It is great to be playing basketball again!! Scioto opened the season with an impressive 74-37 win over Franklin
Hts (2-1). It did not take long for Scioto to set the tone for this one, jumping out to 12-0 and 18-3 leads, before
ending the 1st quarter ahead 25-11. Bradley McDougald led the way with 11 points in the quarter, and Ben Ashwill and
Blair Gorniak added 6 each. The Irish built on their lead in the 2d quarter, closing out the half with a 38-16 advantage.
The 2d half was more of the same, with the Irish leading 57-25 after the 3d quarter, before resting most of the starters in the
4th quarter and finishing with a 74-37 victory.
This game was a fun game to watch for Irish fans, as the ball movement and unselfish play throughout the game lead to many open
shots. Add to that the effort on the glass and rebounding advantage, as well as the intense defense, and fans last night got a
taste of what this team is capable of doing night in and night out. The challenge is to come "mentally" prepared to play every game
just like they did tonight, regardless of who the opponent is.
Bradley McDougald led a balanced scoring attack with 19 points. Blair Gorniak had a double-double, adding 16 points and 10 boards. Ben
Ashwill added 14 including 2 three pointers, Kyle Duncan provided strong outside shooting adding 11, Marco St John added 8, Dylan
Coscia 4 and Rainer Duzan 2. David McKinley did a great job handling the ball.
The Irish's next game is Dec 11th against Worhington Kilbourne.
