NEWS & NOTES
Excitement everywhere about the Irish. As Scioto has advanced deeper into the tournament, more people are taking notice.
Irish fans were joined by friends and supporters affiliated with Coffman and Jerome who attended the regional semi-final
game. Relatives and friends in southern Ohio, Cleveland, Texas, Florida and many other places are following the team via
the Internet, cell phones and text messages.
Hey, St. X – you guys are OK. Irish fans enjoyed the organized and boisterous Bombers student section and cheerleaders.
Cincinnati is home to several Roman Catholic boys high schools and all have traditions handed down from class to class.
Several car loads of Bomber parents took advantage of the nice weather and tailgated pre-game near the giant slide in the
Coliseum. They welcomed Irish fans and wished the team good luck. Even more impressive was the class shown by the Bombers
fans afterward. They congratulated Irish fans for a well-played game and wished them well in the regional finals. Special
greetings to the Longi, Rolfes and Stenger families. Good luck to your sons in their future academic and basketball
endeavors.
She’s still serving the community. The webmaster heard from former Irish volunteer photographer Rhonda Virden this week.
She moved to Florida after last season and has found a home with the Williston Red Devils. Her new team finished the
basketball season just two steps away from the state championships As she did in Dublin, Rhonda also shot photos for the
football team.. Nice of you to check in, Rhonda, and thanks for all you did in Dublin and for what you are doing in
Florida! Scioto has been fortunate to have Paul Fiebig take over this season. You can see photos of many games
at: Fiebeg Photography.
What was that blur? During the third quarter of the St. X game, Irish trainer Donna Hull spotted a player in the game that
had blood running down his leg. She motioned him over to the sideline and quickly cleaned up the cut. When a stoppage in
play came a few seconds later, she quickly bandaged the open wound, allowing the player to stay in the game.
Having a Ball at the Coliseum. The #1 Irish fan, Bill Ball, has been a fixture at all Irish girls and boys home and
tournament games this season. Coach Ball is appreciated by players in all Irish athletic programs for his support as a
football volunteer and fan. Here’s hoping he has the opportunity to cheer on the Irish a few more times this season.
