LATE BROOKHAVEN JV RALLY FUELS OT WIN
Brookhaven rallied from a 5 point deficit and beat the Irish 56-53 in overtime by scoring the last 8 points of the game on
Wednesday.
Early in the fourth quarter it looked like the Irish were headed for a victory when they took a 40-27 lead with just under
six minutes to go. But, in a span of 3 minutes, the Bearcats cut the lead to 43-41 thanks to several Irish turnovers
against a pressure defense.
Brookhaven took a 48-46 lead in the final 30 seconds, but J.R. Bernans made a back door cut and was rewarded with a nice
bounce pass from Gabe McGlone that allowed the Irish to tie it. They defended well in the final 11 seconds of regulation
and Brookhaven was only able to launch an off balance jump shot at the buzzer.
The Irish jumped out to a 53-48 overtime lead, but the turnover bug caught them again and the Bearcats converted the
miscues into points. They took the lead for good on a lay-up with 21 seconds to go and following a pair of missed Irish
free throws they scored in transition just before the buzzer to yield the final score.
Scioto is 9-10 overall heading into the final game at Marysville on Friday.
Leading the way for the Irish in the scoring column was J.R. Bernans who had 22 points, including 8-9 at the free throw
line. McGlone had 13 points, all in the second half. Also scoring for the Irish: Raneal Ewing (8), Max Brundige (5), Jacob
McPheters (3) and Dom Rosso (2).
