JV, FROSH SPLIT WITH WESTERVILLE CENTRAL
Jacob McPheters scored a lay-up with 4 seconds to go and the Irish JVs pulled out a come from behind 35-33 victory over
Westerville Central.
The bucket came after Raneal Ewing split a trap and drove the lane. The help defense came to stop him and allowed him to
dump the ball to McPheters. The Irish blew an opportunity to wrap up the game seconds earlier when they missed four
consecutive free throws – two on a foul call and a pair of technical shots.
They got off to a slow start and trailed 15-4 after the first quarter. The outscored the Warhawks 23-13 in the middle
quarters and entered the fourth trailing 28-27.
Dom Rosso and McPheters led a balanced Irish attack with 8 points apiece. Others who scored were J.R. Bernans (5),
Ewing (5), Gabe McGlone (5) and Max Brundige (4).
Bernans and Brundige tied for game high rebounding honors with 5 apiece. Seven other players recorded boards including:
McGlone (4), Ewing (3), McPheters (3), Rosso (3), Tervon Moore (2), Mitchell Flowers (1) and Terrill Mathews (1).
Ewing had 4 assists. Others with assists were: McGlone (3), Brundige (1) and Rosso (1).
The win pushes the Irish above the .500 mark in league play at 6-5 and they are 7-8 overall.
The Irish freshman lost 50-49 to Westerville Central. They are 10-2 overall and 9-2 in league play.
