 JV Rallies to Beat Monarchs

JVS RALLY IN FOURTH QUARTER, BEAT MONARCHS IN OT

Scioto’s JVs roared back from a 34-25 deficit after the third quarter, forced overtime and came home with a 56-54 win over Marysville.

The Irish cut the Marysville lead to 2 points within the first three minutes of the fourth quarter and the game remained close the rest of the way. Raneal Ewing, who had 14 fourth quarter points, sank two free throws with five seconds to go that tied the score at 48 and the Irish headed to overtime when the Monarchs missed a lay-up at the buzzer.

Halfway through overtime, the Irish trailed 52-50. Max Brundige had a key offensive rebound and put back to tie it. J.R. Bernans took a charge and on the ensuing possession Raneal Ewing gave the Irish at 54-52 lead on a nice drive to the bucket with 35 seconds to go.

Marysville forged a 54-54 tie with 18 seconds to go. Ewing scored on another drive with 8 seconds to go that gave the Irish a two point lead and Marysville missed an off balance runner at the buzzer that allowed the Irish to win 56-54.

Ewing finished with a game high 26 points with 20 coming in the fourth quarter and overtime. Brundige chipped in 13 and Gabe McGlone had 11 points. Jacob McPheters (3) and Tervon Moore (2) rounded out the Irish scoring.

The Irish JV team finished 10-10 on the season and 8-6 in OCC Cardinal play.
