Irish win First
Both the Jerome and Scioto boys teams remained at the bottom of the OCC-Cardinal standings with Marysville at 0-4 before last Tuesday. The Irish and Celtics play Friday at Scioto.
Coach Tony Bisutti, whose team was 1-6 overall before last Tuesday's game against Olentangy Liberty, hopes his young team has settled on an identity.
"We've gone to four guards with (junior post player) Jamare Mills in the middle," Bisutti said. "It really gives us some flexibility and I think we're getting better with our zone pressure. We're making strides, but we're not passing and we're not shooting it well."
Scioto earned its first victory at Gahanna's Columbus Christmas Classic in a wild finish against Cedar Grove (Atlanta, Ga.).
Junior guard Raneal Ewing hit a 3-pointer as time expired in overtime for a 35-32 win.
In a 51-47 loss to Westerville Central on Dec. 22, Scioto led most of the way until the War-hawks closed on a 6-0 run.
"We knew what we were in for with our lack of experience," Bisutti said. "What's made it even more difficult is our schedule. I'm hoping we look better here in the second round. We're improving, but we're averaging 17 turnovers a game and shooting 36 percent from the field."
