EVEN THOUGH IT'S DECEMBER, INDEPENDENCE DAY IS NEXT FOR IRISH
The Irish will be take the road for the fourth consecutive time when they visit Columbus Independence on Tuesday,
December 30.
In the only previous visit to the 76ers, Scioto lost 62-58. The Irish lead the overall series 3-1, with the most
recent game an 80-40 home victory last season.
Independence is coming off a convincing 83-53 win over Columbus City League South Division foe Briggs. They are 2-3
overall, but two of the losses came against solid CCL foes Beechcroft (73-69) and Eastmoor Academy (73-66).
The 76ers don’t have a lot of size on the roster and rely on guards Greg Dawkins (5-10 SR) and Brandon Tyler (6-0 JR)
to lead the way in the scoring column. Dawkins leads his team in scoring with a 16.6 average, while Tyler is chipping
in 13.2 points per game.
Scioto enters this game following a come from behind 52-43 win at Westerville Central. The victory moved the Irish to
5-1 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division.
Columbus City League teams start their home games 30 minutes earlier than most Ohio Capital Conference teams. The
junior varsity game is scheduled to tip at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game should follow at around 7 p.m.
The Irish will return home for a match-up against the Mt. Vernon Yellow Jackets on Friday, January 2. It will be
Alumni Night at Scioto.
