IRISH WIN SECTIONAL WITH WIN OVER WESTLAND
The Irish put together a 9-0 run to start the 4th quarter and break open a close battle with Westland before going on to win 64-49. The game was close for
3 quarters with numerous lead changes, and the Irish clinging to a 40-39 lead entering the 4th.
Bradley McDougald led the scoring with 23 points, including 10 in the 4th quarter, but the contributers to this victory were many. Kyle Duncan canned four 3-pointers,
including 3 huge ones in the final period. Kyle finished with 12 points. DJ Olatoye provided a spark in the 3d quarter with a couple of huge steals and 3 points. Blair
Gorniak, still a little hampered from a sprained ankle, provided some big minutes scoring 8 points. Marco St John added 9 big points, while David McKinley played another
solid game contributing 5 points and doing a great job of handling the point. Rainer Duzan had a couple of big baskets and also did a great job of handling the ball,
and Eric Stamets provided a spark and contributed some quality minutes.
Ben Ashwill missed his second straight game with a foot injury and we all look forward to his return next week.
The Irish are now 20-1 on the year and will be back in action in a District semifinal game on Feb 23 at 4:15 at the Fairgrounds Colisum against Mount Vernon.
