IRISH NEVER CHALLENGED IN 53-30 VICTORY OVER MARYSVILLE

Dublin Scioto jumped out a 16-0 lead and were never threatened in defeating Marysville by the score of 53-30 at Marysville. Marysville hit a three pointer late in the first quarter to trail 16-3 after one quarter. Raneal Ewing scored 7 first quarter points and Ryan Duncan added a pair of treys for 6 points. Antonio Bisutti added two free throws, while Joshua Ashwill hit one out of two.

The Irish won the 2nd quarter 17-6 to take a 33-9 halftime lead. Ewing added 10 more, including a pair of treys. Jalen Johnson ended the half on a lay-up at the buzzer off of a nice assist by Duncan. Justin Craig added a three pointer in the quarter, while Gabe McGlone added 2 points.

The third quarter was more of the same, as the Irish built their biggest lead of the night at 48-14. The Irish led after three quarters 50-21 following a 7-2 run by Marysville. Ewing added 5 more in the quarter, the last three on a traditional 3 point play off a Bisutti assist. McGlone added 4 more points, and Duncan added another 3 pointer as did Ashwill, and Bisutti added a two pointer.

The Irish scored an early fourth quarter basket by Ashwill off a Duncan assist and Aaron Strausbaugh split a pair of free throws to round out the Irish scoring.

The Irish finish the regular season at 8-12 overall and 4-10 in the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Division.

IRISH JV WIN SEASON FINALE 46-41

The Irish took the lead 3-0 on a Dominic Madison three pointer, assisted by Ryan Gibson, and never trailed in putting together a 46-41 victory at Marysville.

Madison quickly added another three pointer, followed by a Braxton Wallace lay-up after a steal. After a Marysville basket, Chase Sult scored 8 quick points, 6 of them on consecutive treys assisted by Wallace and Madison, to give the Irish a 16-4 lead. Marysville scored the final 4 points of the quarter and the Irish led 16-8 after one.

The Irish offense struggled in the second quarter and managed oly 5 points, 2 by Wallace, 2 by Aaron Strausbaugh and 1 by Madison. They did hold Marysville to only 7 second quarter points, and still led 21-15 at the half.

Marysville opened the 3rd quarter on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 23-21. The Irish then went on a 10-0 run, started by a Tyler Zack basket on an assist by Strausbaugh. Strausbaugh scored the next 4 points, one off a nice assist by Wallace, followed by two free throws after he stole the ball. Gibson scored the next 4 points, 2 on technical free throws followed by a nice floater. The Irsh led 35-27 after three quarters.

The Irish scored the first 4 points of the fourth quarter to take a 39-27 lead, however Marysville fought back and only trailed 40-35 with 3 minutes to go. The Irish then went on a 6-0 run to put the game away. The run started with a Gibson basket, followed by Madison basket off a Gibson assist, and finally two free throws by Wallace after he and Gibson combined on a steal. Marysville scored the last 6 points for the 46-41 final.

Madison and Sult led the Irish with 12 points each, followed by Gibson with 8, Strausbaugh and Wallace 6 each, and Zack with 2.

The Irish JVs won their final 3 games to finish at 12-8 overall and 8-6 in league play.


FROSH FINISH STRONG WITH 40-22 WIN

A 16-2 run bridging the second and third quarters allowed the Irish freshmen to take control in a 44-22 win at Marysville.

The Monarchs' only lead came two minutes into the game with a putback. The Irish scored the next 9 points and led 9-4 after one. Matt Messick scored 5 points. Jack Flood and Kalib Wallace chipped in 2 apiece.

Spencer Talentino scored Scioto's first points of the second quarter on an assist from Andrew McKinley. The Irish quickly took charge with a Wallace transition lay-up, a Messick trey and McKinley bank shot off dribble penetration.

Talentino scored again on an inbound pass from Darius McDonald. Derek Scott followed with a steal and lay-up. Following a Marysville lay-up, Scott hit a buzzer beating shot just inside the 3 point line to give the Irish a 24-10 lead.

After a slow start, the Irish got on the board with a long trey from McKinley, assisted by Flood. Brady Blackwell scored on a lay-up assisted by Wallace. McDonald with a free throw, and Messick with a short jumper rounded out the scoring in the third quarter.

Wallace scored the first 5 points of the fourth quarter for the Irish, on a trey assisted by Brian Chu and a lay-up assisted by Jake Schafer.

Talentino assisted the last Irish bucket of the season, a trey by Schafer that only touched the bottom of the net.

Messick led the Irish with 10 points, as nine players scored. Also scoring were Wallace (9), McKinley (5), Scott (4), Talentino (4), Schafer (3), Blackwell (2), Flood (2) and McDonald (1).

The Irish won their last three games of the season to finish 9-11 overall and 6-8 in the OCC Cardinal Division.
