IRISH WIN CONFERENCE OPENER, STAND AT 2-0

For the second straight game, the Irish fell behind early. This time Olentangy opened quickly with a 5-0 lead. That lead was short-lived as the Irish took a 13-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. Joshua Ashwill led the Irish with 5 points off the bench in the quarter. Jamare Mills, Justin Craig, Raneal Ewing and Ryan Duncan each added 2 points in the quarter.

The Irish built their lead in the second quarter and took a 32-20 halftime lead. The Irish were led in scoring in the quarter by Ewing with 7 and Duncan with 4 points and some nice assists. Also scoring in the quarter were Ashwill with 3, Craig with 2, Mills with 2 and Travis Yates with 1.

The third quarter was evenly matched as the Irish increased their lead by a point and took a 46-33 lead into the 4th quarter. Antonio Bisutti scored 8 points in the quarter to lead the Irish. Travis Yates and Raneal Ewing added 3 points each.

The 4th quarter became blowout time as the Irish won the quarter 21-8 led by Ashwill with 5 and Jamare Mills with 4. Others scoring in the quarter were Bisutti with 3, Duncan, Ewing, Yates and Jalen Johnson with 2 each, and Craig with 1. The final score was 67-41.

Irish players drawing charges for the night were Mills and Duncan.

A balanced scoring attack was led by Ewing with 14 points, followed by Ashwill with 13, Bisutti with 11, Mills and Duncan with 8 each, Yates with 6, Craig with 5 and Johnson with 2.

The Irish record is now 2-0, including 1-0 in the conference.

JV CONTROL GAME FROM START, DROP BRAVES 61-41

After jumping out to an early 5-0 lead, the Irish JVs never looked back on their way to a 61-41 win over Olentangy.

Dominic Madison buried two treys in the first quarter and the Irish led 13-4. Both teams ended up in the bonus early in the second quarter of this tightly called game.

In a closely contested second quarter, Aaron Strausbaugh scored the last points of the half on a nice offensive rebound and put back. The Irish led 26-15 at the break.

Travis Yates led the Irish in scoring with 7 at the break, with Strausbaugh and Madison adding 6 apiece.

The Irish stretch the lead to 38-22 in the third quarter and Olentangy called time with 3 minutes to go. Three straight Irish turnovers were converted into points and the Braves closed to 38-28 in the final minute.

Scioto responded with inside buckets from Jack Flood and Abdul Abdullah. The Irish led 38-20 at the end of the quarter.

Madison and Chase Sult had back-to-back treys in the fourth quarter to give the Irish a 50-34 lead. From there, they spread the floor in order to run clock and look for open opportunities.

Terrence Cutchember got in the scorebook with a nice long range tray from the right wing. Point guard Braxton Wallace, who played all 28 minutes, rounded out the scoring with a pair of late free throws.

Madison led the Irish with 18 points. Sult was the only other Irish in double figures with 12. Other Irish scores were: Strausbaugh (9), Yates (7), Braxton Wallace (4), Cutchember (3), Abdullah (2), Flood (2), Ryan Gibson (2) and Tyler Zack (2). Kalib Wallace played but did not score.

The Irish JVs are now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the OCC Cardinal.


IRISH FROSH RALLY FOR 40-37 WIN

The Irish freshmen scored the last 8 points of the game and held on for a 40-37 win over the Braves.

Trailing 37-32 with just 1:42 to go, guard Andrew McKinley banked in the first of a 1+1 free throw. McKinley, who played the entire 28 minutes for the Irish, swished the second free throw to cut the lead to 37-34.

After a defensive stop, the Irish worked the ball around the Olentangy 2-3 zone until Jacob Schafer swished a spot up trey on the left wing to tie the score at 37-37.

Kalib Wallace stole the ball at midcourt and was fouled going in for a lay-up. He split a pair of free throws to put the Irish up 38-37 with 1:03 to go.

Jack Flood was fouled following an Irish rebound and he too split a pair of free throws to push the lead to 39-37. After another stop, Zac Brown was fouled with 14.7 seconds to go.

He hit the first free throw to give the Irish a 40-37 lead. Olentangy rebounded the second one, but with the Irish smothering the Braves, they didn?t get a shot off.

Leading the way with 9 points was Brown. Flood and Wallace chipped in 8 apiece, while McKinley tallied 6 points. Also scoring for the Irish were Matt Messick (4), Schafer (3) and Evan Ekis (2). Playing but not scoring were Brian Chu, Darius McDonald, Derek Scott and Spencer Talentino.

The Irish frosh are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the OCC Cardinal.
