The Irish persevered in a thriller to earn its first victory of the season over Atlanta Cedar Grove (GA) by the score of 35-32 in overtime. Raneal Ewing hit
a long 3 ball as time expired in overtime. Solid defense all night was the key to victory, as the Irish shut out the Georgia team in a slow paced 2d quarter
6-0. The Irish led 32-30 late in the game with the ball. After a missed opportunity, Cedar Grove tied the game with seconds remaining sending it into
overtime. In overtime, the Irish won the tip and held the ball for 4 and 1/2 minutes as Cedar Grove would not come out of their zone. The Irish missed a
shot, and Cedar Grove drove the length of the floor and was fouled. An intentinal foul was called and Cedar Grove was shooting two free throws and
had the ball with about 10 seconds to play. Needless to say, things looked dim at this point, however after two missed free throws by Cedar Grove, the Irish
hopes were again alive. Pressure defense forced a travelling call, and the Irish had the ball back with 6 seconds remaining. Raneal Ewing launched a long
three ball that went through the nets as the horn sounded and the Irish had obtained that first victory of the season.
Irish scoring was led by Raneal Ewing with 10 points, and Justin Craig, Jacob McPheters and Hector Cintron with 6 each. Hector came off the bench to hit two
key 3 pointers to enable the Irish to battle from behind in the 4th quarter. Other scorers were Jamare Mills with 5 and Tervon Moore with 2.
