IRISH FALL TO WESTERVILLE CENTRAL

The Irish fell to Westerville Central by the score of 50-43. The Irish started strong, jumping out to a 6-0 lead on three pointers by Justin Craig (assisted by Ryan Duncan) and Ranewal Ewing. Antonio Bisutti added a 2 pointer after a rebound, and Craig added another basket (assisted by McGlone) and the Irish led 10-7 after one quarter. Bisutti also drew a charge in the quarter.

The second quarter belonged to Central as they outscored the Irish 20-9 to take a 27-19 halftime lead. Craig added a 5 more points in the quarter, including a 3 pointer (assisted by Jalen Johnson). Joshua Ashwill and Ryan Duncan each added a 2 point basket.

The teams battled evenly in the 3rd quarter, each scoring 14 points. Ashwill led the way with 6 points on two three pointers, both assisted by Ewing. Ewing, Gabe McGlone, Duncan and Johnson each added 2 points. McGlone's basket was off of a nice assist by Bisutti. The Irish trailed 41-33 after three.

The Irish scored the first 7 points of the 4th quarter to cut the lead to 41-40, on 2 free throws each by Bisutti and Ewing, and a three pointer from Craig. The Irish would not score again until 10 seconds remained and trailing 48-40. A critical point of the game came with the Irish trailing 44-40 with 3 plus minutes to play. The defense stiffened and forced a missed shot, but Central got an offensive rebound. After another missed shot, Central pulled down another offensive rebound that led to a basket, giving Central a 46-40 lead. For the night, Craig led the way with 13 points, followed by Ewing with 10, Ashwill with 8, Bisutti and Duncan with 4 each, and McGlone and Johnson with 2 each.

The Irish are now 5-10 for the year and 3-8 in the OCC.

JV COMEBACK FALLS JUST SHORT

The Irish JV fell to Westerville Central for the 2nd time this season, this time by the score of 46-43. The first quarter was low scoring with the Irish holding an 8-4 lead after one. Tyler Zack and Ryan Gibson scored 4 points each in the quarter.

The game remained tight in the 2nd quarter and the Irish held an 18-16 halftime lead. Dominic Madison led the Irish in the quarter with 5 points, while Gibson added 3 more and Zack 2 more.

The third quarter was the downfall for the Irish. Leading 24-23 the Irish were called for a technical foul. Central made both free throws, followed by a 3 pointer that sparked a 12-0 run for Central to close out the quarter. Central led 35-24 entering the 4th. Chase Sult and Madison contributed 3 points each in the quarter.

Central scored the first 4 points of the 4th quarter to complete a 19-0 run and take a 39-24 lead. A two pointer by Gibson finally ended the run and began a furious comeback and sparked a 13-2 run by the Irish. During the run, Gibson scored 9 points and Aaron Strausbaugh added 4. After Gibson and Madison were each fouled shooting 3 pointers, and each converting all 3 free throws, the Irish found themselves trailing 46-43 with only seconds remaining. The Irish were forced to foul, and after Central failed to convert the one and one free throw, the Irish had the ball with 4 seconds remaining. The Irish had to go the length of the floor, and their long three point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Gibson led the scoring with 19 points, including 12 in the 4th quarter. Madison added 11, Zack 6, Strausbaugh 4 and Sult 3.

The Irish are now 8-7 for the year and 6-5 in the OCC.


CENTRAL PULLS AWAY FROM IRISH FROSH IN 4TH QUARTER

The Irish frosh stayed within striking distance for 3 quarters, before falling to Westerville Central by the score of 47-28. Central led after the first quarter by the score of 14-8. Brady Blackwell led the Irish with 4 points in the quarter, while Matthew Messick and Zac Brown scored 2 each.

The offense struggled throughout most of the 2nd quarter, managing only 1 point in the first 6 minutes. During the same time, Central only managed 4 points and led 18-9. Trailing 26-9, the Irish then scored 6 points in the final minute, including a traditional 3 point play by Blackwell after a length of the court inbounds pass led to a layup and foul shot with time running out. The Irish still trailed 26-15 at the half. For the quarter, Blackwell and Kalib Wallace had 3 points each, while Messick added 1.

In the 4th quarter the Irish had a number of steals and fast break attempts early, but were unable to convert on any of them. The Irish offense struggled the entire quarter, managing only 3 points, all by Darius McDonald.

Blackwell was high scorer with 14 points. Messick, McDonald, Jack Flood and Wallace added 3 each, while Brown added 2.

The Irish fell to 6-9 overall and 4-7 in the OCC Cardinal.
