The Irish battled hard all night but came up just short in losing a double overtime heartbreaker to Marysville by the score of 65-60. The Irish were once
again without Jamare Mills, one of the team's leading scorers and rebounders.
The Irish maintained a small lead for most of the game, leading 12-9 after one, 24-21 at half and 40-35 after three quarters. Marysville outscored the Irish
16-11 in the fourth quarter to force overtime. The Irish had the ball for the last possession at the end of regulation and overtime, but missed potential
game-winning shots both times.
The Irish came out and played hard in this game. Extra effort on the part of numerous players, including Tervon Moore, Max Brundige, Antonio Bisutti and Jacob
McPheters all of whom either forced jump balls, recovered loose balls by diving on the floor, drew a charge and/or allowed Scioto extra opportunities with
effort resulting in offensive rebounds throughout the night.
In this game Raneal Ewing stepped up and played a solid game, carrying the offensive load with a team high 27 points. Others scorers included Antonio
Bisutti with 7, Jacob McPheters with 5, Travis Yates with 4, Justin Craig with 3, Joshua Ashwill with 3 on a three pointer to tie the game late and send it
to OT, Hector Cintron with 3 on a three pointer in the first OT, Jeremy Nsumbe with 2 and Max Brundige with 2.
The Irish JV jumped out to a 10-3 first quarter lead, maintained a small lead throughout, and hung on late to claim a thrilling 45-42 victory at Marysville.
Marysville fought back all night, finally tying the game at 40 with 2 minutes remaining. Scioto then went ahead 43-40 on a three pointer by Joshua Ashwill,
and after Marysville cut the lead to 43-42, Travis Yates made a bucket to put Scioto back on top by three at 45-42 with just over a minute remaining.
Marysville was unable to convert on a couple of attempts to tie the game, and for the first time this season the JV have a 2 game winning streak.
Joshua Ashwill had a hot shooting night making four three pointers and finishing with 17 points. Other Irish scorers included Travis Yates with 6 points,
Ryan Duncan and Austin Mooney with 5 each, Patrick Rooney and Gabe McGlone with 3 each, and Jalen Johnson, Tyler Flaherty and Ryan Gibson with 2 each.
On a night that included three closely contested the games, the freshmen game appeared as though the Irish would run away from Marysville as the Irish
opened up a 30-11 lead a minute into the 3d quarter. But Marysville made an amazing comeback, and took a brief lead at 39-38 with 30 seconds remaining.
That is when Braxton Wallace stepped up and made 2 key free throws with 23 seconds remaining to put the Irish up 40-39. Aaron Strausbuagh added one of two
free throws with 14 seconds remaining and Marysville misfired on a three as the Irish walked away with their second victory in a row, 41-39.
The offensive word of the day for the Irish was balance, as eight different players scored led by Tim Shadoan with 8 points. Other scorers were Grant
Anderson and Braxton Wallace with 6 each, Evan Demars and Aaron Strausbaugh with 5 each, Tyler Zach and Chase Sult with 4 each, and Brayden Pfeiffer with 3.
