IRISH DEFEAT COFFMAN TO WIN BATTLE OF DUBLIN - NOW 8-0!!!

Dublin Scioto put forth another strong effort in defeating a talented Dublin Coffman team by the final count of 51-32. Scioto got off to
a slow start and found themselves trailing 10-9 after one quarter. Bradley McGougald scored 5 in the quarter to lead the Irish. After falling
behind 12-10 at the start of the 2d quarter, the Irish went to work taking the lead 15-12 on a three point basket by Ben Ashwill and never looked
back. The half ended with the Irish ahead 22-15. Ben Ashwill led the way in the 2d quarter with 8 points, and Kyle Duncan knocked down a huge
three pointer just before the half to give the Irish the 7 point lead.
The Irish put the game away in the 3d quarter by outscoring the Rocks 17-8 for a 39-23 lead heading into the 4th quarter. Blair Gorniak led the
charge in the 3d quarter with 5 points, as 6 different players scored including Kyle Duncan and Ben Ashwill each knocking down three pointers, and
Rainer Duzan, Marco St. John and Bradley McDouglad each contributing 2 points. The Irish extended the lead in the 4th quarter, jumping out in front
51-28 before the Rocks scored the final 4 points of the game for the final 51-32 margin. Five different players scored in the 4th quarter, led by
Bradley McDougald with 4, and Blair Gorniak and Rainer Duzan with 3 each.
The Irish defense was the story of the game, as the Irish played a mixture of man to man and zone. Both were effective in shutting down the high-powered
Rocks offense and preventing their sharpsooters from getting many good lucks from 3 point land. The Irish also won the rebounding battle over the taller
Rocks by a count of 27-20, led by Blair Gorniak with 7, Ben Ashwill with 6, and Bradley McDougald with 5.
The Irish were red hot from three point land, connecting on 7 of 10 for the game, including 2 each by Kyle Duncan, Bradley McDougald and Ben Ashwill, and one
by Rainer Duzan.
Blair Gorniak led another balanced scoring attack with 12 points, followed by Bradley McDougald and Ben Ashwill with 11 each. Kyle Duncan added 7, while Rainer
Duzan and Marco St. John each contributed 5.
Great ball movement led to a number of easy baskets as evidenced by some nifty passes from David McKinley, Marco St. John, Blair Gorniak, Ben Ashwill, Bradley McDougald
and probably others I don't remember.
The next game is Wednesday, January 2d at Bishop Watterson (6-1).
The Irish need to continue to come out ready to play each night, and to continue to play as a team and good things will continue to happen for this basketball team.
