 Frosh over Braves in OT

FROSH EARN OT VICTORY AGAINST BRAVES

The Irish frosh extended their winning streak to five games with a 44-40 overtime victory against Olentangy in the first game of a tripleheader on Friday.

The overtime started slowly with no points scored in the first minute, but Patrick Rooney gave the Irish a lead they would never relinquish by picking up a loose ball on the right wing and canning a three pointer with 1:45 to go that made the score 39-36.

Both teams missed free throws on ensuing possessions and Olentangy was able to cut the lead to 39-38 after an offensive rebound.

Jeremie Nsumbu split a pair of free throws for a 40-38 lead with 30.9 seconds to go. And, he hit a pair of free throws with 11.2 seconds to go for a 42-38 lead. The Irish had regained possession after a big defensive rebound by Jamyl Copeland.

Olentangy scored an uncontested lay-up with 2.5 seconds to go to cut the lead to 42-40. Nsumbu was fouled again with 0.1 seconds and made both free throws for the final margin.

Nsumbu led the Irish in scoring with 15 points, including 5-6 free throws in overtime. Kris Simonton had 7 points, all coming in the third quarter. Rooney also had 7 points. Other players in the scoring column were: Copeland (6), Ryan Duncan (4), Austin Mooney (3) and Matt Strausbaugh (2).

The Irish are 8-1 overall and 7-1 in OCC Cardinal Division games.
