FRESHMEN IRISH HIT ON ALL CYLINDERS IN 71-39 WIN

After a competitive first quarter that saw Westerville South establish a 15-14 lead, the Irish freshmen used pressure defense and good ball movement to earn a convincing 71-39 win.

The Irish took the lead for good at 19-16 on a Tyler Flaherty trey with about six minutes to go in the second quarter. Gabe McGlone followed it up with a steal and lay-up and the Irish finished the quarter with a 17-5 run that gave them a 33-21 halftime lead.

Seven different players scored for the Irish in the second and third quarters. This balance allowed them to establish a 50-27 lead after three quarters.

The Irish sank 11-15 free throws in the fourth quarter and made five baskets for the final 71-39 margin.

McGlone (14) and Flaherty (11) led the balanced Irish scoring attack. Others who scored included: Ryan Gibson (8), Kris Simonton (8), Ryan Duncan (7), Jeremie Nsumbu (7), Kevin McMahon (5), Matt Strausbaugh (5), Jamyl Copeland (2), Adam Kocak (2) and Patrick Rooney (2).
