OUR QUEST........CONTINUES
IRISH FANS............
The house was a rockin' tonight! The senior class led by John Torski, Lele Yutzy, Dustin Smith, Greg Schneider, Brian Bush and many many more brought to Dublin Scioto High School a long lost art of "student participation" at Dublin Scioto High School!
From the middle of the Junior Varsity game these students were having a good time and cheering on their favorite IRISH basketball team and player. You might say that it was a QUIET RIOT because "COME AND FEEL The NOIZE" was definitely on order this night as all three of the IRISH teams were victorious.
In honor of a British Pop Band, The Dave Clark Five, thewebguy is saying Happy Birthday to Dave Clark who turns 65 on Saturday...........the message to the CAPITAL DIVISION is this, "HERE WE COME AGAIN....UM-UM ...CATCH US IF YOU CAN!
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity - Big Walnut vs Dublin Scioto
How would you like to have been Coach Moler when this game started tonight? Four of his players were out due to injury or sickness, two of them starters.
Jerod Nawrocki was out due to an injury and Brandon Brown, had the flu all week and was not able to play. Thus, Coach Moler huddled with freshman coach, Brad Schwering, and juggled the first game lineup to allow several freshman to play up for the night.
Tonights' Junior Varsity game was very slow on scoring by both teams. The score was tied at 4 after the first quarter and the IRISH were down by one at the end of the first half, 14-13.
The mainstays for the IRISH in the first half were Deji Olatoye with six points from the field while Dylan Coscia had five points all from the charity stripe. Again the IRISH were close. This is not bad considering the players unavailable to them.
Jason Tiemeier was back in action and his presence was felt on the offensive and defensive boards.
The IRISH stayed close and the game was tied going into the 4th quarter. At this time Coach Moler called upon two freshman to assist the IRISH and get some scoring going. Chris Green and Matt Martin jumped to the occasion and delivered in a most positive way.
Each of these young men, scored 7 points for the night and helped the IRISH to a big victory. Matt Martin had 5 points while Chris Green chipped in 7 points in the fourth quarter.
It was Matt Martin's lay up and foul shot that sealed the victory for the IRISH.
Matt Martin, Chris Green and Dylan Coscia led the IRISH with 7 points each, Deji Olatoye scored 6 points while Nic Smith and Jacob Lawrence had 1 point each.
The Junior Varsity team is 1-3 on the year and look to extend their winning streak to two games in a row when they host Watkins Memorial High School at home. Game time is 6:00 PM.
The final score of the JUNIOR VARSITY game was Dublin Scioto 29 and Big Walnut 26.
Varsity Game - Big Walnut vs Dublin Scioto
This was the first time these two opponents have faced each other. Big Walnut is one of the perennial powers in the OCC-Capital Division. thewebguy thought that the IRISH were in for a big battle.
The IRISH played tough defense by pressing the out of bounds possession and pressured the ball handler continuously. Ben Ashwill got the scoring going by taking a pass from Michael Eubank offensive rebound and the IRISH were "golden."
Ben Ashwill added another basket and Lolli and O'Connell got into the act and scored 4 points each as the IRISH left the floor at the end of the first quarter with a 14-9 lead.
By thewebguys stats, the IRISH forced 5 turnovers and grabbed 6 rebounds in the first quarter.
Coach Bisutti had the team turn up the notch a bit in the second quarter as they held the Eagles to 3 points while the IRISH scored 17 points. Austin O'Connell led the attack with 4 of 5 shoot from the charity stripe and 5 points from the floor. The IRISH held a comfortable 31-12 half-time lead.
The IRISH were not finished as they continued to platoon the two groups of 5 players as they saw their lead expand to 32 points at the end of the third quarter.
The two platoons have played consistent in three out of the four games this far into the season. In fact, the second group was one point better than the first group. What excellent competition among themselves and this entire team is very unselfish. They constantly look up the floor or through the passing lane for the open player.
The IRISH were outscored in the fourth quarter, 15-9, however, by then it was not meaningful. Coach Bisutti was able to get all of his players into the game at the start of the fourth quarter for game experience that will prove valuable down the road during the season!
The Scioto scoring was led by Austin O'Connell with 17 points. Ranier Duzan followed up with 11 points and Marco StJohn tallied 6 points; Kevin Lolli and Bradley McDougald added 5 points each while Kelly Winter, David McKinley and Ben Ashwill provide 4 points each. Spenser Mooney drained a 3 pointer from the left side into the bottom of the net and Blair Gorniak had 2 points.
The final score was Dublin Scioto 61 and Big Walnut 35.
The IRISH are 4 and 0 overall and 2-0 in the OCC- Capital Division.
Dublin Scioto plays Watkins Memorial at home on Tuesday, December 19, 2006. Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM while the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
thewebguy can close this one out with this final thought from THE DAVE CLARK FIVE ---I'm Feeling...GLAD ALL OVER...YES, I AM GLAD ALL OVER...............
