OUR QUEST........CONTINUES
IRISH FANS............
thewebguy is going to commit a sin within the confines of classic rock! He is going to cite a song from Country Western, singer, Toby Keith, What Do You Think of Me Now!. However, not to be out done, he will use The BeeGees, I've Just Gotta Get a Message To You.
Now, one of my favorite players, Michael Eubank, has just perked up and probably is thinking that thewebguy has finally started to come around. Maybe, perhaps but definitely not entirely. thewebguy will explain as he goes through the stories of last nights games.
By the way, IRISH fans, the IRISH Freshman defeated the Franklin Heights freshman team, 45-31.
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity - Dublin Scioto vs Franklin Heights
A very good outcome came about in last nights Junior Varsity game. Another player came into view to assist the team. Deji Olatoye carried the load both on offense and defense.
Even though the young IRISH lost their second straight game, signs of encouragement did show through.
As you IRISH fans know, thewebguy attempts to log some of the basic basketball stats. Unofficially, Deji had 15 rebounds and 7 points. That is good fundamental basketball. Shoot and/or defend the shot and get to the basket for the rebound!
The young IRISH were in this game in the first half but could not get a break or two to help them over the hump.
This team is young, it is learning and we as fans need to understand that the teams' development during the first part of the season will go along way as we get into the last half of the season.
thewebguy likes the players on the floor, they do need to step up the speed of their game. How do they do this? My advice is to watch the "intensity" of the Varsity players. Each player knows their role and plays it with a high degree of intensity. Each JV player needs to develop this intensity and "eye of the tiger" mental outlook.
Deji Olatoye and Aden Aden led the IRISH with 7 points each, Dylan Coscia chipped in 6 points Rahim Wasim and Andrew Shoemaker had 4 points and 3 points respectively while John Hubbard and Jared Nawrocki had 2 points each.
The Junior Varsity team is 0-2 on the year and look to rebound tonight against the Worthington Kilbourne Wolves at home. Game time is 6:00 PM.
The final score of the JUNIOR VARSITY game was Franklin Heights 47 and Dublin Scioto 31.
Varsity Game - Athens vs Dublin Scioto
thewebguy was worried about this game. It had everything to do with Franklin Heights players, Jeff Taylor and Lewis Buzzard. Two of our players, Michael Eubank and Kevin Lolli spent the spring and summer with these two players on an AAU basketball team.
First, Jeff and Lewis are two fine young men. thewebguy watched these two help the AAU team play quite well throughout the season. Jeff and Lewis played an integral part in Franklin Heights first two victories in this young season.
Second, Franklin Heights is one of three teams in the OCC-Capital Division to fight for the crown by season's end.
Third, many people and media types believe the IRISH team is an unknown factor due to the loss of Clark Crum.
What many people do not know about the starting five is that they came of age last year during the West Virginia tournament
The IRISH were down by quite a number of points, and Coach Bisutti made some adjustments and this "running" attack was what brought the IRISH back and helped them take the crown from the host school, Parkersburg South.
Dublin Scioto got out of the gate fast, furious and quicker than the Falcons suspected would happen.
Kevin Lolli got the IRISH started with a two point basket off a missed shot and the IRISH never looked back as Austin O'Connell, Michael Eubank and Kelly Winter added another 17 points and the IRISH left the floor at the end of the first quarter with a 19 - 6 lead and a thought in thewebguys' mind, "How Do You Like Me Now." A message to the rest of the OCC that the IRISH will not bow down to any team in this new division. The IRISH are on a quest......
The IRISH continued their aggressive play on offense and defense. Austin O'Connell led the team with 6 points in the second quarter while the second platoon chipped in 6 points themselves. Tim Kromer, Marco StJohn and Bradley McDougald each contributed two points in the quarter.
This platooning strategy allows the IRISH to maintain their trapping defense and defend the passing lanes. It is exiting and fun to watch! The IRISH left the floor at half time on a strange play.
The referee called a jump ball prior to the halftime buzzer going off. The Falcons left the court thinking it was halftime, however, Coach Bisutti argued that the referee called a jump ball and that Franklin Heights should be brought back onto the court to take the ball out of bounds as it was their turn in possession.
Coach Bisutti was doing what every head coach wants to do. Fight for ball possession. His point was that the possession arrow was pointing to the Falcons, the whistle blew prior to the half time horn and by rule, then, the IRISH would have the ball opening the second half..
It did not happen as the referees did not agree with Coach Bisutti and the IRISH left the floor with a fifteen point lead 31-16
The third quarter was more of the first half except the scoring by the IRISH was the most balanced of the night. Eight players scored as the IRISH put the ball through the net for 26 points while holding the Falcons to 12 points.
Spenser Mooney led the IRISH with 8 points in the quarter. Spenser had two 3-point baskets and drained two free throws on a technical assessed on the Franklin Heights coach. Ben Ashwill and Rainer Duzan helped the IRISH cause from outside with 3 pointers of their own. The IRISH now had a comfortable lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, 57-26.
The IRISH completed the evening by scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter and their tough defense held the Falcons to 6 points.
The IRISH defense did not let the Falcons get into any offensive flow. The attacking trap and filling the passing lanes caused an "unofficial" count of 28 turnovers.
So, yes, we have not played, New Albany, Big Walnut, Olentangy Liberty nor Watkins Memorial. However, What Do You Think of "Us" Now!
thewebguy has "just gotta get a message to each of you"...........the team is on a quest..........keep the search going.......
The Scioto scoring was led by Austin O'Connell with 14, Michael Eubank had 9 points, Spenser Mooney chipped in 8 points. Another very balanced scoring attack with every IRISH player getting into the scoring column.
The final score was Dublin Scioto 72 and Franklin Heights 34.
