OUR QUEST........CONTINUES

IRISH FANS............

....."Ground control to Major Tom. Commencing countdown, engines on. Check ignition......Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff!

.....This is Ground Control to Major Tom. You've really made the grade.............."

Major Tom to Ground Control.....this is Major Tom....from Tranquility Base........the Eagles have crashed and burned!

Lets talk basketball.....................

Junior Varsity - Dublin Scioto vs New Albany

The Junior Varsity took one on the chin last night at New Albany. The IRISH leading most of the way in this game had problems rebounding when they went to a zone defense and let the New Albany Eagles pull the game out at the buzzer with a 3 point shot. The young Green & White lost 33-31.

The IRISH had time to put this game away twice in the last twenty seconds if they had converted the front end of a one and one, not once but twice.

Learn, Learn, Learn. That is what these young men need to do every game no matter the outcome. They are beginning to come around and now they can see the light at the end of the tunnel is no longer a train coming toward them. Only blue skies!

Dylan Coscia led the IRISH with 11 points. Deji Olatoye and Jason Teimeir had 6 points each while Andy Shoemaker and Destin Thomas had 4 points each.

The Junior Varsity team is 2-10 on the year and 1-4 in OCC Capital Division play. The JV's will play Franklin Heights on January 19, 2007. Game time is 6:00 PM.

The final score of the JV game was New Albany 33 and Dublin Scioto 31.

Varsity Game - Dublin Scioto vs New Albany

To those who do not recall the song thewebguy has chosen tonight, it is - Space Oddity by David Bowie. There was nothing "odd" about the IRISH dismantling of the New Albany Eagles. thewebguy's thanks go out to Paul Sapp for assistance with Tranquility Base!

For those IRISH fans who prefer, Elton John, Rocket Man was played by Kevin Lolli tonight. Kevin set the pace tonight for the IRISH in the first quarter! Kevin had a hand in almost every point of the first quarter.

The IRISH won the opening tip and immediately went into Kevin who spun around his defensive man and drew a foul. He made 1 of 2 foul shots.

New Albany turned the ball over and once again the ball went into the low post to Kevin who made a beautiful spin move for an easy lay up. His game set the pace for Austin O'Connell and Kelly Winter. As New Albany focused on Kevin, that allowed both Austin and Kelly to pick up easy baskets in the paint!

Now, the Eagles had to watch Austin and Kelly. This left Kevin available to score a total of nine points in the first quarter!

The Green & White took an 18-7 first quarter lead. ......Ground Control to the Green & White.......

Defense, defense and more defense. The IRISH poured on the defense in the second quarter. New Albany scored 3 points in the entire quarter on one play. Spenser Mooney helped the IRISH with four points in the quarter and Kelly Winter added a single basket as the IRISH took a 24-10 lead into half-time.

.....Ground Control to New Albany....your circuit's dead....there's something wrong!

The Eagles were spent at this point and little did they know that the IRISH would push them into a deeper "black hole" in the second half!

During the third quarter, the IRISH scoring leader took over.

Austin O'Connell opened the scoring with a big 3-point basket and the IRISH did not stop there as they outscored New Albany 14-2 in the third quarter.

Austin scored another 4 points, Bradley McDougald had two fast break baskets on Eagle turnovers and the IRISH had a commanding lead of 38-12 at the end of the third quarter!

This game was accentuated by the fantastic turn out by the Scioto students! The players had to be proud that these students traveled down to New Albany to support the team!

Fan support goes a long way as the players feed off the emotion provided by the students. The good natured ribbing from both the IRISH and the New Albany students was FAN-tastic!

The Green & White continued to play good offense and pressure defense in the fourth quarter. Yes, the game was over but consistency is always important. It builds attitude, focus and character.

The IRISH would not allow New Albany to get into the flow of their offense at all. New Albany worked for every basket they got. Sometimes their offensive possession lasted over a minute and a half due to how high the IRISH defense played them on the outside!

Four players scored for the IRISH in the fourth quarter as they continued their assault under the basket and out on top of the key.

This was a very good game with the pace set early by the seniors, juniors and then continued by our sophomores!

A satisfying victory and now the IRISH can concentrate on continuing their quest............

The IRISH were led by Austin O'Connell with 16 points each; Kevin Lolli scored 9 points; Kelly Winter and Bradley McDoughal had 8 points each.

The final score was Dublin Scioto 52 and New Albany 20.

The IRISH are 12 and 0 overall and 5-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.

Dublin Scioto plays Franklin Heights at home on Friday, January 19, 2007. This is an OCC League match. The freshman game time is 4:30 PM while the Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM and the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM

............Ground Control to the IRISH..........You've really made the grade.......now its time to continue your quest........

You have more to prove and more to lose. Everyone will be gunning for you now that you have more recognition...........how bad do each of you want it?.........what are you willing to do to get the "golden" fleece?

The quest continues.......
