One of the most interesting regular-season match ups in Central Ohio will take place tonight in Dublin when the Coffman and Scioto boys teams get together as part of a three day, round robin event in the city.
The IRISH will play at Coffman this evening, with Jerome playing at Scioto Thursday and Coffman agoing to 2-3 Jerome for the finale Friday.
Of the three contests, the opener between the city's oldest schools probably holds the most intrigue.
Scioto has opened the season unbeaten,, winning all six of its games by double digit margins. The Shamrocks, who fell in their league opener to Grove City, have won four of their first six, including three straight.
Shamrocks head coach Jamey Collins said he thinks Scioto presents a tough opponent to gauge. Unlike in past years, the IRISH this season are playing a more wide open style of attacking basketball, similar to Grove City.
"Everytime down the court, they're pushing the ball," said Collins. "It's going to be a challenge."
Led by junior guard Scott Stuckey, Coffman can be particularly dynamic when it is shooting the ball well.
Coach Collins thinks the game could be an early barometer of where the two teams sit in the Central Ohio hierarchy.
"It's always difficult to tell until you play each other, but I think based on results you would have to say Scioto is playing as well as anybody right now."
Though Collins said he doesn't relish another quality openent on an already difficult schedule, he appreciated the benefit of the games.
"From a coaching stand point it's not an easy game to prepare for, but it's an exciting thing for the students and the community.
All three games are scheduled to begin at approximately 7:45 PM.
