Feeding Frenzy-Linden McKinley Falls To Irish

COLUMBUS LINDEN MCKINLEY vs. DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH

OUR QUEST........CONTINUES

IRISH FANS............

If thewebguy planted the following names in your mind, what would you the come up with? A police chief....a marine scientist.......a grizzly old fisherman........give up?

1975, Roy Schieder, Richard Dreyfus and Robert Shaw-------JAWS. This movie caused quite a frenzy of panic when it came out.

The Dublin Scioto High School Gymnasium was turned into a "feeding frenzy" during the two games played last night. The first "feeding frenzy" was displayed by the JV - Panther team while the second "feeding frenzy" was put on by the Varsity Green & White!

The Green & White were on both ends of the feeding frenzy. the young IRISH squad took a lashing from the JV Panther team while the older and much wiser IRISH squad gave a lashing to the Varsity team from Columbus Linden McKinley.

Lets talk basketball.....................

Junior Varsity - Columbus Linden McKinley vs Dublin Scioto

The first quarter was as close as the young IRISH came to being in this game. In fact, the IRISH held the lead for most of the first quarter. Brandon Brown got the IRISH started off with a nice jumper that hit nothing but cord. He would hit another jumper to keep the IRISH close at the end of the quarter trailing by 3 points 10-7.

The second and third quarters were the toughest on the Green & White. The Panthers outscored the IRISH, 34-7 in a frenzy of Green White turnovers that lead to numerous fast breaks.

thewebguy would like to believe that the young IRISH team will use this defeat as a huge lesson on stepping up the speed of their basketball fundamentals. Passing lanes need to be defended as well as the player being guarded. Telegraphing where the ball is going next was a big issue that the IRISH fell into time after time.

The JV team from Columbus Linden McKinley were the young "sharks" and thewebguy was concerned as to how our Varsity would handle similar pressure, speed and ability from the older and bigger sharks. This game would be the first big test for the platooning play of the IRISH! Now let's see........where did thewebguy set that "chum" down............

Brandon Brown, Chris Green and Andrew Shoemaker, led the IRISH with 5 points each.

The Junior Varsity team is 1-5 on the year and will travel to Dublin Coffman on Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Game time is 6:00 PM.

The final score of the JUNIOR VARSITY game was Columbus Linden McKinley 54 and Dublin Scioto 20.

Varsity Game - Columbus Linden McKinley vs Dublin Scioto

The games during the holiday season are fun because many of the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins of the players get to come and watch. thewebguy noticed a number of new faces in the crowd tonight.

thewebguy had family in from Bartlett, Tennesse and Minster, Ohio. In fact, he was sitting with Jay Frierott, a cousin of Kevin Lolli.

Jay was quick to point out to thewebguy that a technical foul was assessed on the Panthers prior to the start of the game! Jay was right on the money as Austin O'Connel was awarded two free throws due to a pre-game infraction and the feeding frenzy was on!

Austin was very hot in the first quarter as he scored 9 of his 20 points during this stanza. The Green & White used traps, turnovers and good play execution to build a 24-15 first quarter lead. The prettiest of these plays was the back door lay up by Brandon Gorniak that kept the Panthers from regaining any momentum.

Both teams had an array of players score during the first quarter. The IRISH had seven players score while the Panthers had 5 players hit the score column. Comfortable yes, because not only did the first platoon jump out of the gate quickly, the IRISH second platoon did not let up on intensity, drive and scoring.

Ben Ashwill got the Green & White on the scoreboard first in the second quarter with a driving lay up. The Panthers settled down and started using the three point shot as a lethal weapon. The Panthers drained 3 three point baskets in the second quarter. They were only able to chip off two points from the lead due to excellent play on both ends of the court by the IRISH.

The score at the end of the first half was 37-30. The IRISH were controlling the entire tempo of this game. It was a controlled "frenzy" and thewebguy knew that the waters would be choppier in the second half, but for whom?

A huge 3rd quarter for the IRISH saw them expand their seven point lead to 14 points.

The Beatles sang a song on their 1969 Abbey Road album, She Came In Through the Bathroom Window. Well. the Green & White came in through the same window, down the lane, across the baseline and lit up the scoreboard everyway a fan could think of and even added a big three point shot from behind the arc, during the third quarter!

Each platoon fed on the others play. The intensity level was fierce as the IRISH had seven players score during the third quarter.

The Panthers' senior guard, Jeff Davis attempted to take control of the game for Linden McKinley. Jeff scored nine points with two of the baskets coming on huge bank shots behind the 3 point arc. His effort was not enough as the IRISH led 63-49.

Now let's see, is there any of that "chum" still left..............

The words for this quarter were consistency and intensity. The IRISH were not to be denied and they started on their first play of the fourth quarter. Kevin Lolli pulled down an offensive rebound and put it in for two points!

Another player showed his grit while scoring 5 points in the 4th quarter. Rainer Duzan hit a layup on a turnover and a nice three point basket to add to the IRISH cause!

The IRISH remained hot throughout the 4th quarter as they outscored the Panthers 24-8. Their 14 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter swelled to 30 points.

If there was any concern whether the IRISH could stay, play and defeat a worthy opponent, it was answered tonight. All twelve players saw game action, while eleven of them scored.

This was a game that had a coach and "the coach" grinning from ear to ear! Not only did the Green & White play hard, they played hard for 4 quarters and continued to display team ball from the start of the first quarter to the end of the fourth!

The Scioto scoring was led by Austin O'Connell with 20 points. Kelly Winter followed up with 13 points; Ben Ashwill had 12 points and Ranier Duzan 10 points.

thewebguy wishes everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanakuh, Happy Kwanza and oh yes, Happy Festivus!

........Didn't anybody tell her? Didn't anybody see?........

Darn, where did thewebguy set that "chum" down.......

The final score was Dublin Scioto 87 and Columbus Linden McKinley 57.

The IRISH are 6 and 0 overall and 3-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.

Dublin Scioto visits Dublin Coffman on Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM while the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
