 IRISH Take Mythical Dublin Championship

DUBLIN JEROME CELTICS VS DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH

OUR QUEST........CONTINUES

IRISH FANS............

What do Ike & Tina Turner; Twisted Sister; Joe Cocker and Dublin Scioto Irish Basketball have in common?

Ike & Tina Turner sang a song Proud Mary whose beginning went something like this,

"...You know, every now and then we think you might like to hear something from us "nice and easy." But there is just one thing, we never, ever, do anything nice and easy....we always do it nice and rough!"

Tonight's game was anything but nice and easy! It was rough because the IRISH took it too easy during the first three quarters!

Twisted Sister, led by Dee Snider, sang a song, We're Not Going To Take It, Anymore.

The seniors were behind as they entered the fourth quarter, 33-28. These players stole a verse from Twisted Sisters big song.

It went like this: ..... We've got the right to choose and there ain't no way we'll lose it, this is our life, this is our song we'll fight the powers that be just don't pick our destiny 'cause you don't know us, you don't belong.....Oh we're Not Gonna Take It! No, We Ain't Gonna Take IT! We're Not Gonna Take It, Anymore!

Ok, IRISH fans, so now you understand Ike and Tina and Dee Snider but what does Joe Cocker have to do with the IRISH and their game against Dublin Jerome?

Joe Cocker did a remake of the hit single You Are So Beautiful To Me.

A win is a win no matter how ugly. ....You are everything that I hoped for, you're everything that I need.......this win is so beautiful to the IRISH!

Lets talk basketball.....................

Junior Varsity - Dublin Jerome vs Dublin Scioto

The Junior Varsity lost for the seventh time this season. However, their level of play was much better tonight than in recent outings. The Green & White had a rough first half but fought valiantly in the 3rd and 4th quarters only to come up on the short end

The sophomores were led by Andy Shoemaker and Jason Tiemeier as well as freshman Matt Martin. Ball handling was much better tonight. These young men played a game that showed that they wanted to win.

The IRISH need to find ways to score early to keep them in the game. Dublin Jerome used their size to out-muscle the smaller IRISH team. When the IRISH found themselves close, the Celtics took the ball inside and pulled away for a victory.

Andy Shoemaker led the IRISH with 9 points and Matt Martin pitched in 6 points and Jason Tiemeier tallied 5 points.

The Junior Varsity team is 1-7 on the year and will play host to Bishop Watterson on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. Game time is 6:00 PM.

The final score of the JUNIOR VARSITY game was Dublin Jerome 44 and Dublin Scioto 29.

Varsity Game - Dublin Jerome vs Dublin Scioto

The "mythical" Dublin championship belongs to the Dublin Scioto IRISH!

As Ringo Starr stated in his song It don't come easy! This victory was anything but easy..........rough yes!

Kevin Lolli had a pair of bookends tonight, IRISH fans. A first and fourth quarter scoring spree that helped the IRISH win their 8th game in a row.

Not to be outdone, Michael Eubank came through on offense and defense tonight. If there was a loose ball, Michael was there, if the IRISH needed a turnover, Michael was there! When the Green & White needed a three point basket to take the lead, Michael was there!

The Dublin official scorekeeper, Chris Cordi and thewebguy, will need to discuss how many defensive touches that Michael had in this game. Baskets put points on the scoreboard but defensive plays, like Michael contributed, continued to put the IRISH in the position to make the baskets.

This was a night that the IRISH, Kevin and Michael will not forget in a long time!

The coach of Dublin Jerome, Kevin Alkire, was an assistant to Coach Tony Bisutti here at Scioto for 9 years. It was great having Coach Alkire and his team visit the confines of Dublin Scioto. However, it was not thewebguys cup of tea to see Coach Alkire's team take a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Celtics used a wide spread offense and brought the ball into the paint with their big man, Kevin Ferguson. Ferguson scored 8 points in the first quarter to provide Dublin Jerome a comfortable five point lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Green & White got 6 points from Kevin Lolli. Four of those points from the charity stripe and a beautiful lay in underneath the arms of a Celtic player. Ben Ashwill added a 3 point basket.

This was only the second time this year that the IRISH found themselves behind at the end of the first quarter.

The IRISH stepped up their level of play and outscored the Celtics 11-4 to give themselves a slim 2 point margin at half time.

Ben Ashwill and David McKinley led the IRISH with 4 and 3 points respectively. Spenser Mooney had a huge assist helping Marco StJohn score 2 points to provide the IRISH with their 20th point of the night. A very slow scoring pace for the IRISH who usually have 20 points midway through the first quarter of a game.

Coach Alkire fired up the Celtics for the third quarter as they came out firing on all cylinders. Even though they had five turnovers, Jerome outscored the IRISH 15-8 and once again claimed a five point lead going into the fourth quarter at 33-28.

The IRISH looked like anything other than an undefeated team during the first three quarters. Yes, platooning was used throughout the game but Coach Bisutti could not find the right combination to get the IRISH on the right track!

The fourth quarter somehow fired up the IRISH seniors.

The IRISH got a wake up call on a charging foul that was called against the Celtics. Coach Alkire did not agree with the referee and let him know it as the IRISH brought the ball up the court. The referee had heard enough and called a technical on Coach Alkire.

Austin O'Connell stepped to the line and sank both freebies to provide the impetus for the IRISH comeback. Michael Eubank continued his outstanding defensive play and added a big three point basket that gave the Green & White a lead they would not relinquish.

Kevin Lolli had a strong 4th quarter as he scored 8 points. Four of those came from the foul line. These four points sealed the deal for the IRISH!

Twisted Sister and Dee Snider would have been proud of these seniors who refused to say die! ...we're right/yeah; we're free/yeah; we'll fight/yeah; you'll see...

As Joe Cocker said so eloquently, You are so beautiful to me...............

Scioto scoring was very balanced again tonight. The IRISH were led by Kevin Lolli with 14 points; Austin O'Connell had 10 points; Ben Ashwill and Michael Eubank scored 9 points each.

The final score was Dublin Scioto 53 and Dublin Jerome 40.

The IRISH are 8 and 0 overall and 3-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.

Dublin Scioto returns home to host Bishop Watterson on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM while the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM

Happy New Year everyone!
