OUR QUEST........CONTINUES
IRISH FANS............
In honor of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown,....."thewebguy feels good, he knew that he would, so good, so good, he's got you and the IRISH!"
It was an exciting Varsity Game tonight. The Shamrock gymnasium was filled with fans of all ages as everyone came to see the battle of Dublin.
The Shamrock students in their "white-out" attire could not stop the Green & White of Dublin Scioto.
Don Henly could not have said it any better in his song Dirty Laundry! "Kick'em when they're up and Kick'em when they're down! Kick'em All Around!"
That is exactly what the Bisutti players and the "Zutti Zone" did tonight! ......thewebguy feels good!
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity - Dublin Scioto vs Dublin Coffman
It was tough going for the young Green & White tonight as they were outmatched right out of the gate against the JV Shamrocks. The Rocks used their speed and height to a build a huge lead that the young IRISH could not overcome.
The Green & White had too many long spells without scoring a point in each of the four 7 minute quarters. The IRISH fell behind 9-0 before scoring their first basket at the 2:45 marker in the first quarter.
Andrew Shoemaker and Deji Olatoye kept the IRISH close with separate baskets in the first quarter as the IRISH left the floor down 9-4.
The IRISH went almost three minutes in the second quarter before scoring in the second quarter. The Shamrocks built a 21-11 half-time lead.
It did not get any better in the second half as the IRISH could only score an additional 7 points and fell to the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks 40-17.
Dylan Coscia led the IRISH with 6 points and Deji Olatoye pitched in 5 points. Andy Shoemaker, Brandon Brown and Jerod Nawrocki each scored 2 points.
The Junior Varsity team is 1-6 on the year and will come home to play Dublin Jerome on Thursday, December 28, 2006. Game time is 6:00 PM.
The final score of the JUNIOR VARSITY game was Dublin Coffman 40 and Dublin Scioto 17.
Varsity Game - Dublin Scioto vs Dublin Coffman
Southwestern Ohio and Wheeling, West Virginia were represented very well last night as the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks hosted the Dublin Scioto Irish. Kevin Lolli welcomed his aunts, uncles, cousins and grandfather from Loveland and Middletown, Ohio, as well as, Wheeling West Virginia.
Kevin did not let his fans down as he played a strong first quarter along with Kelly Winter. Each player tallied 4 points while Austin O'Connell, Bradley McDougald and Marco StJohn tallied 2 points each in the first quarter.
The Shamrocks countered with an inside game that saw Michael Bohan lead Coffman with 8 points of his own under the basket and the Green & White found themselves behind at the end of the first quarter 15-14. That was the last time the IRISH trailed in this game.
It was time for the Austin O'Connell show to step forward and that is exactly what the 6-4 senior did. Austin led the IRISH on a 19-9 run in the second quarter. Austin hit on a three point basket and was also fouled . He completed the four point play by sinking his foul shot and the Green & White was off to the races! ...I make my living off the evening news......
Ben Ashwill, Rainer Duzan, and David McKinley supported Austin very well. Ben scored four points; Rainer drilled a three point bucket while David put in a runner down the lane to help the IRISH open up a 33-24 half time lead.
Coffman came out in a zone in the 3rd quarter. The Green & White were patient to look for their openings and found opportunities to hit on three 3-point baskets.
Three different players hit the bottom of the net from behind the arc. Kelly Winter, Ben Ashwill and Ranier Duzan took the 3 point honors. This stretched the zone out wider and opened the middle for single baskets by Austin, Kevin and Michael Eubank.
Eubank's basket was the coup de grau of the night as he took a pass from Kevin Lolli and went right down the lane for a beautiful one handed lay up at the buzzer.
The IRISH were in complete control with a 15 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter leading 50-35.....just give me something-something I can use......
The 4th quarter was played a lot from the charity stripe.
The Shamrocks went to the line ten times and dropped in 9 of those ten freebies to keep them somewhat in range.
The Green & White completed 12 trips to the charity stripe sinking 11 shots. Ben Ashwill and Kevin Lolli went six for six in the last minute to drown out any hope for a Shamrock comeback. Ben hit his two at the 54 second mark and Kevin hit 4 shots in the last 36 seconds.
The platooning employed by Coach Bisutti worked very well again. The two platoons maintained their intensity and provide consistent play through out the game. This IRISH team is a formidable group in Central Ohio.
The next part of their quest will be to capture the "mythical" Dublin championship by defeating the Dublin Jerome Celtics on Thursday evening.
The Scioto scoring was very balanced tonight. The IRISH were led by Ben Ashwill with 14 points; Kevin Lolli and Austin O'Connell had 13 points each and Kelly Winter followed up with 11 points.
........Kick'em when they're up....Kick'em when they're down...Kick'em all around!.....
The final score was Dublin Scioto 67 and Dublin Coffman 54.
The IRISH are 7 and 0 overall and 3-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.
Dublin Scioto returns home to host Dublin Jerome Celtics on Thursday, December 28, 2006. Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM while the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
