DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH VS PARKERSBURG SOUTH
OUR QUEST........CONTINUES
IRISH FANS............
thewebguy has looked forward to this game since the IRISH took on the Patriots of Parkersburg South last year!
The Patriot program does an outstanding job of wrapping the entire event around the fans.
This night was no exception as they picked young kids to shoot 3-point shots between quarters and awarded them certificates for the person who made the basket. They also involved their student body.
The Athletic Director placed a box containing a gift certificate somewhere on the floor after blindfolding a student. The student then went on the direction of other fans and crawled around to find the box in a minutes time frame. It was fun for all ages!
thewebguy had several conversations with people in the Patriot family! thewebguy's opinion of this game was that this was the most dangerous 6-5 team that the IRISH would face this season! So to Kenny Loggins..........The IRISH of Dublin Scioto took a ride into ......Highway into the Danger Zone...Right into the Danger Zone!
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity - Dublin Scioto vs Parkersburg South
The Green & White had a very long night against this Junior Varsity team from Parkersburg.
The IRISH were outsized and out run most of the evening as all eleven players of the Patriots got into the scorebook.
The IRISH fell behind quickly and were down 18-10 in the first quarter. Jerod Nawrocki led the IRISH with four points in the first quarter with Deji, Dylan and Jason adding single baskets.
Deji opened the second quarter with two steals and two baskets but the IRISH had a mental lapse on defense and the Patriots took a commanding lead outscoring the IRISH 22-10 in the entire quarter. At halftime, the IRISH were down 40 - 20.
For three quarters, the IRISH point production was consistent with 10 points each. It was just not enough as they could only muster up 2 points in the 4th quarter.
This game did provide an opportunity to see other IRISH players get some playing time. Rahim Wasim pulled down an offensive rebound and went back up with the ball quickly for a two point basket.
The bench players need to be ready on a moments notice and need to get into the flow of the game quickly. It is critical that a bench leader pick up the slack in hustle, leadership and production. This did not happen for the IRISH tonight.
Dylan Coscia led the IRISH with 11 points. Deji Olatoye followed up with 6 points and Jerod Nawrocki added 5 points.
The Junior Varsity team is 2-12 on the year and 1-5 in OCC Capital Division play. The JV's will play an away game against Parkersburg South High School, in Parkersburg, West Virginal, on January 20, 2007. Game time is 5:45 PM.
The final score of the JV game was Parkersburg South 66 and Dublin Scioto 32.
Varsity Game - Dublin Scioto vs Parkersburg South
thewebguy is going to take you into..."Highway to the Danger Zone.......Right into the Danger Zone
What game was thewebguy at Saturday night! The IRISH "burned" the Patriots for 24 points in the first quarter, held the Patriot big man, Will Richardson to ZERO points.
True IRISH fans, one could believe that thewebguy was a bit off this night especially after Kevin Lolli went on a tear and scored 10 points for the Green & White. Michael Eubank added 5 points and Austin O'Connell chipped in 4 points while Kelly and Marco had 2 points each.
It was apparent to thewebguy that the Patriot game plan was to stop Austin O'Connell. It seemed the Patriots were determined to not let Austin get untracked and beat them.
That was the Patriot folly in the first quarter.
The IRISH forced 8 turnovers in the first quarter and ran a very good offense to take a commanding 24-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Patriots spread the floor on their offensive possessions in the second quarter. They got three 3-point baskets from Anthony Caplinger. This began to open the middle. Will Richardson found room to hit two quick baskets and sandwiched a one and one from the foul line. This woke the Patriot fans up and the cheering hit some pretty high decimals going forward.
The IRISH did not lay down and die. They continued their offensive set and six players gotten into the score book. Kelly Winter and Kevin Lolli led the IRISH with four points each.
A big play came after Coach Bisutti took Austin O'Connell out of the game due to picking up his second foul.
Tim Kromer came on the floor with a round of cheers from the IRISH fans. Meanwhile, Michael Eubank was taking the ball out from just behind the mid-court line. The eye contact was made and Michael rifled a pass down court to Tim who put the ball into the basket for a quick score! A big play from a tall player coming off the bench. At this point, the IRISH held a 41-32 lead at half-time.
There was something in the air that did not seem right to thewebguy! The Danger Zone was not too far away!
The third quarter was played almost to a standstill with the IRISH racking up 14 points to 12 for the Patriots.
Here are some thoughts from thewebguy that he did not understand. After burning the nets for six 3-point baskets in the first half, the Patriots did not attempt many and neither did they score from behind the arc in the third quarter. In fact, Anthony Caplinger who had four of those 3 pointers in the first half was riding the pine! Not sure why?
Will Richardson was held scoreless again by the IRISH. He also had a lot of pine time in the third quarter. Maybe the Patriots were waiting to go into the 4th quarter into the -- Danger Zone!
The IRISH played outstanding defense by thewebguys standards. His count showed that the Green & White forced 12 turnovers in the third quarter. However, the IRISH committed too many turnovers themselves to negate any real advantage. They did leave the court with a 55-44 lead!
The Green & White did not have this game locked up at all! Just as the Patriots did in the second quarter, they bunched a lot of points together to pull within three points. Andy Morris and Will Richardson scored 7 and 8 points respectively. You might say they got the Patriots, .....spreading their wings....jumpin' off the track and shovin' into overdrive....." into the Danger Zone!
The IRISH were not to be outdone here, even though the Patriots were down by three, 64-61 with 2 minutes to go! ....Out along the edges..Always where I burn to be...The further on the edge....The hotter the intensity....Highway to the Danger Zone!
The Green & White got back to the basics of how they played in the first quarter. Offensive spread with their look inside. They found Kevin Lolli for a quick basket and forced two turnovers that Michael and Ben turned into points. The IRISH ended any thought of the Patriots upsetting them!
The IRISH were led by Kevin Lolli with 20 points; Kelly Winter scored 13 points and Austin O'Connell followed up with 10 points.
The final score was Dublin Scioto 70 and Parkersburg South 63.
The IRISH are 14 and 0 overall and 6-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.
Dublin Scioto travels to Big Walnut for a rematch with the Eagles on Friday, January 26, 2007. The Freshman Game will start at 4:30 PM. The Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM and the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
............Ground Control to the IRISH..........You've really made the grade.......now its time to continue your quest........
You have more to prove and more to lose. Everyone will be gunning for you now that you have more recognition...........how bad do each of you want it?.........what are you willing to do to get the "golden" fleece?
The quest continues.......
