BISHOP WATTERSON EAGLES VS DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH
OUR QUEST........CONTINUES
IRISH FANS............
A writer knows he has a reader base when he/she is asked about what will be the "next" story line.
thewebguy has found this out to be true as several parents came up to him last night and asked what was the song to be used for the story line on Watterson vs Dublin Scioto.
thewebguy did not bat an eye and quickly responded with....Billy Joel. There are several Billy Joels' songs that thewebguy believe are appropriate for this game.
No Paul Sapp, thewebguy is not going to use Uptown Girl.
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity - Bishop Watterson vs Dublin Scioto
This IRISH JV team continues to search for its personality. The JV team lost another game last night, however, thewebguy can see some light at the end of the tunnel. Leaders are made and the real leaders shine when it sometimes is the darkest. This team is no exception. The young IRISH continue to struggle scoring. At times, going late into a quarter until they get their first point.
Sometimes the smallest spark can light a fire. Rahim Wasim came off the bench and played well on offense and defense. Rahim scored four points and was diving on the floor for the ball to help the IRISH cause.
Another IRISH player who saw some time last night was Jon Hubbard. Jon played good by thewebguys standards considering he has not seen much action in the season. Jon did not score but thewebguy had him down for a couple of rebounds. This will go a long way into building confidence during the last half of the season.
Dylan Coscia and Deji Olatoye need to continue their leadership roles and get this team to be more patient on offense.
Three players led the IRISH with 4 points each. Rahim Wasim, Brandon Brown and Dylan Coscia. Destin Thomas came off the bench and scored 3 points for the IRISH.
The Junior Varsity team is 1-8 on the year and will travel to Olentangy Liberty on Friday, January 9, 2007. Game time is 6:00 PM.
The final score of the JUNIOR VARSITY game was Bishop Watterson 46 and Dublin Scioto 22.
Varsity Game - Bishop Watterson vs Dublin Scioto
We all remember Virginia during the holiday season when everyone assured her that yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
In Billy Joel's song, Only The Good Die Young he told Virginia, "...you Catholic girls start much too late....
The "boys" from Watterson found out much "too late" that their was a basketball game held as the IRISH ran away with this game very early!
The Eagles found themselves down 8-0 on hot shooting by Austin O'Connell, Kevin Lolli, Bradley McDougald, Marco St John and Spenser Mooney in the first quarter. The IRISH built an 18-7 first quarter lead and never looked back.
The IRISH continued their offensive juggernaut into the second quarter as eight players scored 19 points for the IRISH.
The Green & White had balanced scoring as Austin O'Connel lead the IRISH with 5 points as the other 7 players scored 2 points each as the IRISH demonstrated solid offense plays and continued to play team ball.
Watterson got into the flow of their game in the second quarter and were able to score 14 points but the IRISH increased their lead to 16 points at half-time 37-21.
The 3rd quarter opened up similar to the first two quarters. Austin O'Connell scored the first bucket. And the IRISH offense was as relentless as their defense.
In fact, in Billy Joel's song, Pressure, he talks of ...."but you will come to a place where the only thing you feel are loaded guns in your face and you'll have to deal with....PRESSURE!" The place was Dublin Scioto!
So true, as the IRISH "pressure" defense from both platooning squads took its toll on the Watterson Eagles. Kelly Winter took advantage of several Eagle turnovers and converted them into driving lay ups.
When the IRISH were not running, Spenser Mooney provided the fire power from behind the three point arc with three 3-point baskets.........Spenser, Billy Joel's hit song BIG SHOT described your shooting touch........."you had to be a big shot, didn't you...all your friends were so knocked out."
Spenser and Super K helped the IRISH increase their lead to 30 points at the end of third quarter, 57-27.
The fourth quarter did not bring any special drama as to what the outcome of the game would be. However, it did bring out whether or not the IRISH would get everyone into the scoring column.
Tim Kromer, back up post player started the IRISH off with two points from the charity stripe. Tim just missed scoring a basket in the lane before he was fouled in the act of shooting.
The Green & White maintained their pressure defense and again held the Eagles to six points in the fourth quarter.
Scioto had three players in double figures tonight. The IRISH were led by Austin O'Connell with 13 points; Spenser Mooney had 12 points and Kelly Winter scored 11 points.
The final score was Dublin Scioto 64 and Bishop Watterson 33.
The IRISH are 9 and 0 overall and 3-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.
Dublin Scioto travels to Olentangy Liberty on Friday, January 9, 2007. This is a league match so the freshman game begins at 4:30 PM while the Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM and the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
As thewebguy closes out this story, he will quote a final song from Billy Joel, This Is The Time......
......."this is the time to remember cause it will not last forever these are the days to hold onto cause we won't although we want to........
The quest continues.......
