IRISH defeat Patriots-tie for League Championship

OLENTANGY LIBERTY PATRIOTS VS DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH

OUR QUEST........CONTINUES

IRISH FANS............
....Sweet Seasons-Carole King

".....Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.......
......Just when you thought you had made it.......
......All around the block people will talk.......
......But "you" want to give it all that "you've" got....
......"You" don't want to waste it..........

Sweet Seasons came from the album Tapestry by Carole King. This album recently celebrated its 36th anniversary and is rated a classic by BILLBOARD standards. Friday, Carole King celebrated her 65th birthday!

Lets talk basketball.....................

Junior Varsity - Olentangy Liberty vs Dublin Scioto

There are no songs to apply to this game that was played tonight. The Green & White played bookend quarters. Unfortunately, there was not much offense in the middle two quarters.

However, a question was answered that thewebguy had asked himself and a few people in his entourage (lol)!

Deji Olatoye led the IRISH in the first and fourth quarters of last nights game. This young man needs to take on the leadership of this team. He demonstrates a lot of talent from time to time and needs to want to be the leader of this team.

His first step is quick, his rebounding is very good and when he uses finesse on his inside game, he can be unstoppable.

Deji led the IRISH in the first and fourth quarters by scoring 6 and 12 points, respectively. thewebguy and the IRISH staff need him to step up, lead and play a consistent game both on offense and defense.

Another player that gives his all, game in and game out is Dylan Coscia. Dylan hustles continuously. A very good example of this was in the fourth quarter, Dylan slapped an errant ball into the air in between two Patriot players. Hustling towards the ball, Dylan converted this play into a fast break basket.

A good play by an IRISH player who does not like to lose.

OK, who wants to play.........................

Deji Olatoye led the IRISH with 18 points. Dylan Coscia followed with 8 points.

The Junior Varsity team is 2-16 on the year and 1-8 in OCC Capital Division play.

The JV's will play a home game against Westland High School on February 12, 2007.

The final score of the JV game was Olentangy Liberty 40 and Dublin Scioto 31.

Varsity Game - Olentangy Liberty vs Dublin Scioto

The IRISH continued its Sweet Season right from the start of the game. Kevin Lolli got the opening tip over to Kelly Winter and the IRISH were off and running. Kevin scored the first points of the game on an offensive rebound and put back as the IRISH never looked back.

The Green & White continued their constant pressure and 40 seconds into the game, the Patriots were forced to call a time out in order not to lose the ball on a turnover.

Kelly Winter led a balanced attack in the first quarter, scoring 6 points as the IRISH poured it on and walked off the floor at the end of the first quarter with a 16-7 lead.

While the IRISH stepped up its defensive pressure in second quarter, they were called for a number of fouls. In fact, all five points scored by the Patriots in the second quarter were from the charity stripe.

Austin O'Connell had a pair of buckets in the second quarter. One basket came when he drove into the lane, faked a dish off and layed it into the net. The other was at the buzzer on a beautiful three point shot from the left side.

The importance of "being ready" when coming into the game off the bench is critical to maintain continuity.

Michael Eubank ran into foul trouble in the second quarter last night and Coach Bisutti inserted Tim Kromer into the game.

Tim made his presence felt right away with a blocked shot and rebound. He also was fouled in the act of shooting and drained two foul shots. He helped the IRISH to a 32-12 halftime lead!

The Green & White had a very balanced offensive attack in the third quarter as they saw six players get into the score column. Rainer Duzan found his 3 point range and hit a basket from behind the arc while Kevin Lolli matched those three with a basket and a foul shot. David McKinley, Austin O'Connell and Spenser Mooney added single buckets on lay ups.

The Olentangy Liberty Patriots began shooting 3 pointers at this point. They were able to hit the bottom of the net on two of their attempts but the IRISH extended their lead to nineteen points at the end of the 3rd quarter, 44-25.

The fourth quarter was a hot one for the IRISH. They matched their output of the first and second quarters with another 16 point barrage while holding the Patriots to 4 points.

Tim Kromer and Kevin Lolli led the IRISH with four points, each while Michael Eubank followed with another 3 points each. Kelly Winter, David McKinley and Blair Gorniak added a single point each at the charity stripe while Rainer completed both ends of his two shots from the foul line.

Senior, Tim Kromer, a crowd favorite, was a force inside again for the second straight game. At 6-7, Tim helped the IRISH control the boards on offense and defense. His scoring helped the IRISH keep its big lead and provided the crowd with a huge cheer when he blocked a players shot!

The IRISH were led by Kevin Lolli with 14 points; Kelly Winter had 10 points; Austin O'Connell had 9 points; Rainer Duzan helped out with 7 points and Tim Kromer matched his season high with 6 points.

The final score was Dublin Scioto 60 and Olentangy Liberty 29.

The IRISH are 17 and 1 overall and 9-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.

Dublin Scioto plays at home the final two games of the regular season.

Tuesday, February 12, 2007, the Green & White take on the WESTLAND Cougars in a non-league game.

Friday, February 16, 2007, the IRISH conclude the regular season with a league game against the New Albany Eagles on . The Friday game is Senior Night.

Starting times for both games are: Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM and the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM

............Ground Control to the IRISH..........You've really made the grade.......now its time to continue your quest........

You have more to prove and more to lose. Everyone will be gunning for you now that you have more recognition...........how bad do each of you want it?.........what are you willing to do to get the "golden" fleece?

The quest continues.......
