IRISH take down Cruisers in Second Half

GROVEPORT-MADISON VS DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH

OUR QUEST........CONTINUES

IRISH FANS............

thewebguy was as guilty as this day was long! How about you? Were you looking to a potential opponent on Friday night? Did you believe that all the IRISH had to do was to keep their nose above the water line.......to get to the Friday night game?

There was no judge at this game handing out sentences but thewebguy believes Coach Bisutti will be handing out a bit tougher practices to help the IRISH get prepared to play the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats on Friday, February 23 at 7:00 PM in the New Albany High School gymnasium!

Calling all 'Zutti Zone members, calling all 'Zutti Zone members, this will be the toughest game of the season. The IRISH need your support!

Lets talk basketball.....................

Varsity Game - Groveport Madison vs Dublin Scioto

The IRISH looked nothing like the 10-0 OCC Capital Division champs the first two quarters of this game

The first quarter was mired in missed opportunities due to missed shots underneath. The team looked relaxed in warm ups but did not have their game face on in the first quarter.

Kevin Lolli and Ben Ashwill led the IRISH scoring. Kevin got the IRISH started with a good drive to the basket off a missed shot. Ben Ashwill drove to the basket from the left side and made a nice left handed lay up. It looked like the IRISH could do what they wanted when they wanted.

Ben took advantage of his speed and took his defensive player to the basket again and Kevin challenged the interior line-up. He made the bucket and finished the three point play when he was fouled. Austin O'Connell scored the final two points of the quarter.

Maybe that was the problem. Each player saw that they could "turn" it on, however, they may not have counted on the Cruiser defense stepping up along with their offense and the IRISH found themselves in a 11-9 game at the end of the first quarter.

The IRISH stepped up their offensive showing a bit in the second quarter. Most of the scoring came from the foul line for the IRISH as they made 9 of 12 from the charity stripe.

It would be wrong to say that the IRISH held their own on the boards. Even though by thewebguy's count, the Green & White had 8 points off of offensive rebounds for the entire game. Two in the second quarter, one by Ben Ashwill and the other by Blair Gorniak helped the IRISH maintain a five point lead against the Cruisers. Groveport crashed the boards continuously as the IRISH seemed to be content being spectators.

The Cruisers did not step aside for the 18-1 IRISH. They fought hard for their points by crashing the boards and getting down the court on transition for uncontested lay ups. It would seem that the half-time conversations in both locker rooms would be a bit animated.

The Groveport Madison Cruisers had to feel pretty good being down only by 5 points at half, 27-22.

The IRISH came out in the third quarter with a vengeance. The IRISH forced six turnovers during the first three minutes of the third quarter and put this game away. It was the strongest offensive outburst by the IRISH all night as Kelly Winter and Ben Ashwill led the IRISH with 6 points each while Austin O'Connell had 5 points.

Rainer Duzan added a single basket and Blair Gorniak contributed two freebies from the charity stripe while Marco StJohn added one point. The IRISH took a commanding lead at the end of the third quarter, 49-34.

The Cruisers did score 12 points in the third quarter with half of them coming from 3 point land.

Kelly Winter got the IRISH started off in the fourth quarter with a basket off an offensive rebound.

Later in this quarter, both Kelly and Austin were benefactors of assists from Michael Eubank. Michael did not score big but continued to play hard on defense, dish out assists on offense and aided the rebounding cause for the IRISH! A very good all around game for Michael. thewebguy hopes that the fans notice this type of game adds points for the team but not in the scorebook for the player!

Spenser Mooney came off the bench in the fourth quarter to take scoring honors for the IRISh. Spenser hit a 3 point basket and went 4 for 4 at the charity stripe. Austin O'Connell added five points and the IRISH rolled through the 4th quarter holding the Cruisers to 8 points.

The IRISH were led by Austin O'Connell and Kelly Winter with 15 points each; Ben Ashwill contributed 13 points; Spenser Mooney had 7 points and Kevin Lolli had 5 points.

The final score was Dublin Scioto 68 and Groveport Madison 42.

The IRISH are 19 and 1 overall and 10-0 in the OCC - Capital Division. CHAMPIONS OF THE OCC-CAPITAL DIVSION!

Dublin Scioto will return to tournament play on Friday, February 23, 2007. The Green & White take on the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats at New Albany High School. Game time is 7:00 PM

The IRISH will not be able to sleep walk through any of the four quarters against the Wildcats. If the IRISH fans remember, this Hilliard team beat the IRISH last year in the district semi-final game at the coliseum. The IRISH want this victory not only to continue its quest to the district championship but also to become the winningest Boys Varsity Basketball team in school history!

GO IRISH!
.......your quest continues.......
