DUBLIN SCIOTO IRISH VS WATKINS MEMORIAL WARRIORS
OUR QUEST........CONTINUES
IRISH FANS............
...."Open up the door, We can change the world!"
These words were very political in nature when the song was first sung by CSNY-Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. It was written in reference to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968.
The Green & White of Dublin Scioto have the opportunity in the next thirteen days to change the world of the OCC-Capital Division.
Back in late November, early December all the IRISH heard was how Big Walnut, Franklin Heights and New Albany were going to dominate the Capital Division!
Under the leadership of six seniors the IRISH are very close to "changing the world" of the OCC-Capital Divison!
...."Won't you please come to "Scioto," No one else can take your place. You can "change the OCC!"
My apologies to Graham Nash........it is thewebguys' way to say, Happy 65th Birthday, Graham!
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity - Dublin Scioto vs Watkins Memorial
The JV Basketball team found themselves behind the eight ball again versus the Watkins Memorial Warriors.
The first quarter was the best for the IRISH as they were in the game even though they were behind by three points after the first 7 minutes. It was the closest the IRISH came all night!
thewebguy believes that individually, these players know what to do. However, they still play as if they have not been through a season together. Kind of tough but when times look the darkest is the time to change your attitude and outlook. This team cannot "have" a good game! They must "MAKE" a good game!
There are three games to play and these three games are enough to change attitudes and outlook! thewebguy believes that it is in each of these young players, but they must find it and bring it out and display their capabilities.
Deji Olatoye led the IRISH with 7 points. Brandon Brown pitched in 5 points while Dylan Coscia and Jason Teimeir had 3 an 2 points respectively.
The Junior Varsity team is 2-15 on the year and 1-7 in OCC Capital Division play.
The JV's will play a home game against Olentangy Liberty High School on February 9, 2007.
The final score of the JV game was Watkins Memorial 34 and Dublin Scioto 17.
Varsity Game - Dublin Scioto vs Watkins Memorial
It is not often that thewebguy picks out a song or theme prior to the start of the game. However, it was a forty mile trek to Watkins Memorial, so what else was he going to do!
Yesterday was groundhog day...........thewebguy thought about re-running the same story written the first time these two teams played. He knew the IRISH took care of the Warriors, 85-36. After all, he was counting on another blowout!
So not to steal anything from Bill Murray and GROUNDHOG DAY, thewebguy brings to you, Aerosmith's - Same Old Song and Dance.
It was good to see the players respond well after their first loss of the season! The IRISH wasted no time in displaying their superiority and domination over the Warriors.
The offense and defense were purring like a 1969 Olds 442. Austin O'Connell got the points dropping with a short bucket from the side and the IRISH were off and running.
thewebguy had the opportunity to coach rec ball and one of the things that he and Coach Rick stressed to the players was defensive touches. Coach Rick believed it was important for players to get their hands on the ball to disrupt the flow of the opponents offense.
This is exactly what Michael Eubank and the rest of the IRISH did in the first quarter and throughout the game! Michael directed a defensive attack that was unrelenting. thewebguy would really like to see that stat in the scorebook!
The IRISH had six players score 24 points. Kelly Winter led with 6 points in the first quarter while Austin contributed 5 points. A big contribution was provided by senior Tim Kromer.
Tim came off the bench half way through the first quarter and dropped in 4 points and had three rebounds! Kevin Lolli, Ben Ashwill and Michael Eubank rounded out the scoring as the IRISH took a commanding 24 - 6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
thewebguy could hear Steven Tyler of Aerosmith......."its the same old story, same old song and dance, my friend...."
Marco StJohn took advantage of his defender in the second quarter and came up with six of his nine points for the night. Marco used speed and agility to get around his opponent for three easy buckets. thewebguy believes that Marco does a good job observing the game when he is on the bench. Some of those moves looked familiar from the first platoon's action in the first quarter. The IRISH went 6 for 10 from the charity stripe.
The Warriors doubled their point output from the first quarter and scored 12 points. The IRISH opened up a 40-18 lead going into half time.
Seven players scored for the IRISH in the third quarter as the athleticism of the entire team began to drain the Warriors. Kevin Lolli got the IRISH started with a driving lay up for two points. Kevin was fouled and completed the three point play at the foul line.
Austin and Kelly spun up nine points between them. Austin drained a long three point shot while Kelly continued driving into the lane and scored his four points of the quarter. Michael Eubank added a two point basket on an offensive rebound and put back for the IRISH.
Blair Gorniak had a very strong rebounding night and provided scoring power in the 3rd quarter. He continues to rebound well on the offensive boards. He put one of those offensive rebounds in for a two pointer and was fouled on another put back and added two points from foul line. The IRISH had a comfortable 63-31 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In most situations, a coach at this point will call off the "big dawgs" and substitute freely. Coach Bisutti sat his first platoon down for the fourth quarter. His second platoon maintained a very high intensity on both ends of the court.
thewebguy believes that many teams and fans of their opponents underestimate the second platoon's abilities. They are as intense and willing to go all out for the benefit of the team. Spenser Mooney showed this as he scored on a three point shot and went 4 for 4 from the foul line. Tim Kromer saw action again in the fourth quarter and added another two points for a season high of 6 points.
David McKinley continued his hot shooting from the third quarter and added two points. Rainer Duzan did not have his 3 point shot on tonight but that did not keep him from taking the ball to the basket for two points as the IRISH closed the Warriors out by defeating them 80-40.
The IRISH were led by Kelly Winter with 12 points; Austin O'Connell had 10 points; Spenser Mooney and Marco StJohn contributed 9 points each. Kevin Lolli and Ben Ashwill had 7 points each. Tim Kromer and David McKinley had 6 points each while Rainer Duzan and Blair Gorniak dropped in 5 points each. Michael Eubank followed up with 4 points.
The final score was Dublin Scioto 80 and Watkins Memorial 40.
The IRISH are 16 and 1 overall and 8-0 in the OCC - Capital Division.
Dublin Scioto comes home to play Olentangy Liberty for a league game with the Patriots on Friday, February 9, 2007. The Freshman game time is 4:30 PM, Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM and the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
............Ground Control to the IRISH..........You've really made the grade.......now its time to continue your quest........
You have more to prove and more to lose. Everyone will be gunning for you now that you have more recognition...........how bad do each of you want it?.........what are you willing to do to get the "golden" fleece?
The quest continues.......
