Although a season high four game winning streak came to an end, the Dublin Scioto High School boys basketball team was nevertheless awarded a seed at the Division I Central District tournament meeting Sunday afternoon at Olentangy Liberty.
And so the seventh-seeded IRISH (10-6, 43 Ohio Capital Conference Division) learned of its postseason fate. Scioto will oppose either Whetsone or Teays Valley in a second-round matchup Feb. 25 at the Ohio Expo Center Coliseum.
According to Irish coachTony Bisutti, all hopefuls outside of Lancaster, Brookhaven and Reynoldsburg are in the same boat.
"Most of us are just simply trying to get on a run," Bisutti said. "Those three are better than everybody else right now."
"But we are in that second tier where anything can happen if we get some confidence and enthusiam going."
The positive news at Liberty offset a disappointing result at league leader Grove city on Friday evening.
Off to a slow start, the Irish simple never recovered and dropped a 68-53 decision to the Greyhounds.
"I thought they played very well, but we did not come out with any success at all," Bisutti acknowledged. "I am disappointed in the fact that they outplayed us at every position."
Which was especially the case in the backcourt, where the Greyhounds were continually able to penetrate the lane and find giant center Seth Price for easy looks. Price finished with a game high 18 points.
Moreover, it was the Grove City guards who initiated a 37-24 advantage at intermission by controlling the pace of the action .
"We talked about certain defensive fundamental points and then we simply didn't execute," Bisutti lamented. "We put ourselves in a hole right off the bat and then we allowed too many second shots."
All told, Chris McLain led the IRISH with 14 points, while Clark Crum added 12 in the lane.
Next up for the Sciot is a league battle with visiting Chillicothe Friday at 7:30 pm followed by a non-league tilt at Westland on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
