The Westerville Central Warhawks swept the OCC Cardinal series with the Irish freshmen with a 62-28 win on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams played solid halfcourt defense early, but the Warhawks were able to use traps and attacked the passing lanes in order to secure fast break buckets. They moved the ball well and attacked the rim in order to get 8 free throw attempts in the quarter. Jason Tiemeier got the Irish on the board with a putback, but the Warhawks led 19-2 after one quarter.
They stretched the lead to 37-8 at the break with Tiemeier (4) and Brandon Brown (2) scoring for the Irish.
Brown had a hot hand in the third quarter, going 4-4 from the field and tallying 8 points. Tiemeier chipped in another bucket and Jerod Nawrocki scored as well. The Warhawks outscored the Irish 16-12 and led 53-20 at the end of the quarter.
Nawrocki hit a pair of buckets in the fourth quarter and was joined in the scoring column by Jordan Garner and Dylan Coscia. The Warhawks won the fourth quarter by a 9-8 margin and won the game by a final score of 62-28.
Final scoring totals for the Irish were: Brown (10), Tiemeier (8), Nawrocki (6), Coscia (2) and Garner (2).
