Freshmen Fall at Grove City

In OCC Cardinal Division action, the Irish fell 56-20 to the Grove City Greyhounds. Playing in a rec center adjacent to the high school, the Irish fell behind 5-0 before Jason Tiemeier hit a pair of free throws at 1:51 to get the Irish on the board.

Despite cold shooting and several turnovers, the Irish battled hard on defense and on the boards in order to stay in the game. Tiemeier got an offensive rebound and put back for the first Irish field goal at 1:18. Dylan Coscia and Jerod Nawrocki also had rebounds and put backs that allowed the Irish to close to 9-7 at the end of the quarter.

A nifty hook shoot from the right block by Tiemeier in the first minute of the second quarter allowed the Irish to tie the game at 9-9.

Rahim Wasim made a great adjustment in transition and powered up a layup on a transition feed from Coscia to cut the Grove City lead to 15-11.

Using slashes to the basket and ball reversal, the Greyhounds began to hit shots more consistently. Coupled with a trapping press, they went on an 11-0 run and eventually took a 31-15 lead to the locker room at the half.

During the first two quarters, the Irish struggled at the line and hit only 3-12 attempts.

The second half was marked by foul trouble and turnovers which was reflected in a 25-5 Grove City advantage and final score of 56-20.

Scoring for the Irish were: Coscia (7), Tiemeier (7), Brandon Brown (2), Coscia (2) and Wasim (2). Eleven Greyhounds scored, led by Rasor (10).
