OPENING NIGHT - A BIG SUCCESS
IRISH FANS............
Last night's game answered some questions about the IRISH basketball team for thewebguy!
The first question answered was would the IRISH keep up their winning streak of games won on opening night!
The second question answered was is this team ready for an opening night conference game.
The third question answered was who was going to complement our "big man" game with solid play in the back court?
The fourth and final question was what was the price of gas on opening night............
The Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams opened up their second decade of basketball with wins last night. Coach Cauley garnering his first for the IRISH JV team while Coach Bisutti added to his victory record.
Lets talk basketball.....................
Junior Varsity
This young team made up of mostly freshman learned a valuable lesson in patience last night.
The young IRISH took the floor and found themselves behind 6-0 halfway through the first quarter.
Bradley McDougald got the IRISH started with a two point basket and it seemed to breath a bit of fresh air into their lungs. The JV went on to score six more points to take a 8-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. This would not be the last you hear about Bradley McDougald either.
Olentangy brought out their three point shooters in the second quarter as they hit on three 3-point baskets to stay in the game. Coach Cauley showed that he had some fire power too as Rainer Duzan and Bradley McDougald each hit from long range. Both young men added a bucket and Spenser Mooney added another to give the IRISH a 22-17 half-time lead.
Bradley McDougald opened the 3rd quarter attack with a bucket and the IRISH took care of business the rest of the way handing the Olentangy Junior Varsity a 41-34 loss.
Bradley McDougald led the IRISH with 17 points, Rainer Duzan followed up with 10 and Spenser Mooney had 7.
Varsity Game
Thewebguy wants to know who gets to select the pre-game warm up music! There was some jammin' going on last night during pre-game rituals.
It was somewhere between The BAHA MEN and PINK that "WOKE UP THE ECHOES" for the IRISH! (Bartlett, Tennessee and Minster, Ohio will understand that reference, won't you Paul and Jay!)
The Baha Men sang the song "Who Let The Dogs Out" while PINK sang "Let's Get This Party Started" and that is what the IRISH did from the outset.
Kelly Winter led the IRISH to a first quarter lead of 20-5 as he had four baskets and a free throw for 9 points while Clark Crum chipped in 5 points, Lolli, O'Connell and "the new kid in town" Chris McLain garnered a basket each! Remember those motivational songs........Let's get this party started.....WOOF.....WOOF!
The IRISH did not rest on their laurels of the first quarter either. Again, Kelly got things started with 2 points from the charity stripe and Kevin Lolli added a basket, which by the way, a coach loves it when the player hits the offensive boards and scores! This was Lolli's second offensive rebound and bucket.
Michael Eubank kept the IRISH rolling with a long three point shot from the left side and the IRISH left the floor at half time with a 34-17 lead!
The IRISH came out in the third quarter and did most of their damage from the charity stripe as Chris McLain went five for six. The IRISH outscored the Braves 14-9 and were on their way to a big opening night victory and their first conference win of the season!
The Scioto scoring was led by Clark Crum with 16 points; Kelly Winter with 11 points; Kevin Lolli with 10 points. Ben Ashwill and Chris McLain had 9 points each. A very balanced scoring attack. Thus you now see the answer to all the questions thewebguy had but the last one!
The final score was Dublin Scioto 66 and Olentangy 51.
Dublin Scioto plays Worthington Kilbourne at home on TUESDAY, December 13, 2005. Junior Varsity game time is 6:00 PM while the Varsity will start around 7:30 PM
WHO WOKE UP THE ECHOES............. and what did you pay for a gallon of gas..........
IRISH CELEBRATE TEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
What thewebguy found out was that the IRISH have opened up 70% of their first games in the month of December while 30% of their opening games started in the last week of November!
Take a look and enjoy the stroll down memory lane.
